A Tip-Sheet for Infant Baptism
at Holy Name of Mary Church, Saint Charles Borromeo Church and Saint Vincent de Paul Church

We are happy that you want your child to be part of the Roman Catholic Church Family! Baptism is the first sacrament that welcomes a child or an adult into the faith. By choosing to have your child baptized, you are making a commitment to raise this child in the faith and commit to participating in your parish’s life through education, service and worship. Baptism is a commitment to live as a disciple of Christ and follow in Christ’s footsteps. This sacrament and moment in the life of a child is not entered into lightly. One must pray and think about the responsibilities of living the Christian Life.

At our clustered parishes, we want to meet you and have an opportunity to get to know you. An initial interview is done with Fr. Mark. During this interview, we will have an opportunity to fill out parish records and know of your interest in parish life.

All those children until the age of 7 are eligible to be baptized into the Roman Catholic Church. (Those 7 and older are part of the process to become Catholic that is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children where those 7 to 18 are baptized, confirmed and receive their First Communion.)

Parents and Godparents with respect to the Pre-Baptism class is arrange at a mutual time and date with our Baptismal team. The class is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

1. Classes are mandatory for parents and godparents. If you have received instruction within the last two years, and are from another parish, please present a recent certificate of completion from the parish to which you took the training or belong.

2. Godparents (at least one): [See the special sheet to be filled out by the Godparent]

     b. Completely initiated in the Roman Catholic Church (baptized, confirmed and have made their First Communion)
     c. 16 years or older

3. If Godparents are not from one of our clustered parishes, they need to get a letter from their pastor and church stating that they are able to be a Godparent.

5. A $25.00 donation (or more depending on family’s abilities) is given to the church for sacramental preparation, baptismal certificate, ministerial stipend and other office paper work. The donation is given during the registration process to the secretary in the front office.

6. The process for enrolling in the baptism class and celebration is as follow:
     a. To be interviewed by the pastor and register for the baptism class
     b. Complete the proper paperwork with the pastor (birth certificate, paternal records, etc. needed)
     c. After the class, register for the celebration of the baptism.
