Each year we tried to schedule Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday. In recent years, the late Archbishop Anthony Meagher granted us permission to confirm the candidates to the Parish Priest due to his illness. Last year we confirmed our Candidates on Pentecost Sunday, May 27th 2007 at 8:45 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary in Marysville and on the same Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo in Read.
Since the Archbishop, the Most Reverend Brendan O’Brien was appointed as our new Archbishop of Kingston, he is taking the responsibility of celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation in his Diocese. We are scheduled to celebrate this Sacrament in our clustered parishes on Sunday, May 18th 2008 during 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Church, Marysville.
In future, we are planning to rotate this Sacrament of Confirmation between our three clustered parishes, so our Archbishop has the opportunity to visit and meet our parishioners at each of our churches. Students must be prepared in our Catholic Schools (Holy Name of Mary in Marysville and St. Mary in Read ), or in one of our neighbouring Catholic schools. Our program prepares students to be confirmed when they are in seven and eight grades; special classes prepare older students. Sponsors must provide a letter of eligibility from their parish (see Sponsors and Godparents). Ideally, all first Sacraments should be made in the individual’s own parish, but the Archdiocese of Kingston permits the pastor to make exceptions for good reason at the request of the parents. Father Chochrek will permit students of a neighbouring parish school to receive Confirmation with their classmates in that parish, if their parents make the request.
